It is located on the Central Railway’s Mumbai–Kasara route and lies along the Mumbai–Nashik corridor near the foothills of the Western Ghats. Once primarily an agricultural settlement, the area has gradually developed due to improved railway and highway connectivity with Mumbai, Kalyan, Thane, and Nashik.

Asangaon is approximately 72 km from Mumbai CSMT, and local trains on the Central Railway both originate and terminate here. Travellers from Mumbai can reach Asangaon by boarding either an Asangaon local or a Kasara local train.

Asangaon serves as an important residential and transport hub within Shahapur Taluka. The region is known for its comparatively lower industrial pollution, greener surroundings, and calmer environment when compared to denser parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

This balance is exemplified by the Oswal Industrial Estate Phase II, one of the most successful industrial hubs in the region. Housing over 80 SMEs and providing employment to more than 1,500 people, the estate is a thriving center for diverse sectors including Electronics, Plastics, Precision Engineering, and Fabrication. The facility also hosts robust operations in Automobile components, Food Processing, Machine Making, Paper Processing, Computer Stationery Manufacturing, and Shoe Assembly.

The town is surrounded by greenery, small hills, rivers, and scenic landscapes. During monsoon, the hills around Asangaon turn deep green, seasonal waterfalls appear across the region, and clouds drift through the Sahyadri ranges, creating a refreshing natural atmosphere. It is also known as one of the main access points to Mahuli Fort and nearby trekking routes in the Shahapur region, making it popular among nature lovers and trekking enthusiasts.

The area is also located close to Manas Mandir, various resorts, and natural green spaces, which contribute to its popularity as a weekend destination for visitors from Mumbai and nearby cities.

Asangaon offers essential social infrastructure, including schools, colleges, healthcare facilities, hotels, retail outlets, banks, and local markets that cater to the daily needs of residents.

The nearby Bhatsa River, forest areas, and monsoon landscapes further enhance the natural appeal of the locality. Mahuli Fort, located close to Asangaon, attracts trekkers and visitors from Mumbai, Thane, Kalyan, and nearby cities throughout the year.
